Google Chrome Commercial...tear!

I learned a long time ago in my Marketing 101 class...great advertising is designed to evoke emotions. Google continues to amaze me as a benchmark of all-things technology oriented and particularly a recent commercial advertising Google Chrome.

The minute and a half spot features a dad using the tools of Google to create an online journal to his daughter from birth through growing up by writing to her email address (one he obviously created).

Dad demonstrates the tools by uploading photos, adding videos from youtube and even using Google maps to show her where she lived for the first four years of her life. As a new mom, this definitely turns the water works on...and makes me want to create an email account for my baby girl so that I may begin writing the story of her.

Here is the link...get your tissues ready!!

Getting down and dirty at Burger King

Earlier this week, Miss L and I visited daddy at work...she was able to meet a few colleauges prior to heading over to Burger King for a quick lunch.

After I finished my sandwich (the new "California Whopper Jr" - which is very delicious), I happened to pull the blanket off of Miss L as she was beginning to fuss and was shocked to see a lovely yellow-ish substance on her onesie at her waistline. So, we leave my lunch and bee line straight to the ladies room. But this ladies room didn't have a changing table (look at my surprised face, afterall it was a BK)...so we were forced to change in the back trunk of my SUV...on the coldest day yet in the first 45 days of existence.

Lone and behold - it was a complete blowout, the kind that makes a mom want to literally cut off the onesie as to not get "stuff" on her hair and face while attempting to get the darn thing off. Luckily this new momma had a large ziploc stored in the diaper bag prepared for occasions like this (which are beyond the imagination when first assembling the new diaper bag contents). In goes everything - diaper, jeggings, onesie- and we quickly re-dressed in the emergency onesie stored in the diaper bag.
Daddy helped finish the dressing and we got on the road back in the warm car.

In the end of my pregnancy, I googled what exactly do you put in this cute diaper bag that I so carefully selected. Here is what I ended up including in mine:
  • Diapers (at least 3), wipes, and changing mat
  • Burp cloths (at least 3)
  • Tissues/napkins
  • Bib
  • Scented plastic bags to put the dirty diapers in when you can't find a garbage
  • Ziploc bags to put all dirty things in while on the road
  • Nursing cover (mine is from UdderCovers.com, use promo code "newborn" for a freebie)
  • Extra cloths for Miss L
  • Camera
  • Water bottle

Exciting Lunch Date

Today after our "mommy and me" class, us moms decided to extend our fun across the street to Applebees. It was quite comical witnessing the staff jump through hoops to seat six moms each carrying baby car seats with babies ranging from 6 - 9 weeks old. The manager said, "This is the most dynamic table we have served," meanwhile, the other guests ooo'ed and aww'd as they walked past counting car seats. The little ones did great for the most part, needing bottles here and there...and us moms definitely enjoyed our selves.

During mommy and me class, we weighed Miss L (with clothes on, but with a clean diaper) and she was 9lb 2.5oz - slowly, but assuredly gaining. For now, she will continue to be our little peanut!

Save the Hybrid for the Carpool

It is common knowledge that babies love car rides, right? We've all heard about the parents of a colic baby using this tactic at 3am to silence their baby. Well Miss L enjoys it "most" of the time...but I've learned that my hybrid SUV is a bit too quiet to make much of a difference. So I have resorted to cranking the volume to a static-filled radio station to create the perfect white noise for our baby. It is a tried-and-true method that works well. I guess I should've saved the hybrid for the later years when I'm toting around the hockey team and officially a carpool mom. For now, I will resort to the sound of static to keep us sane while driving around town.

Baby Show and Tell

Last week at our "Mommy and Me" class, we were asked to bring in an item or two for "baby show and tell." That is...bring a baby item that you love using, makes your life easier or that your little one loves. I had to think long and hard about this since Miss L isn't old enough to really "like" anything in particular.

So, I decided on sharing the following two items...

First item: "My Brest Friend" pillow. Yes, it sounds funny. However, this "boppy-like-item" is better than a boppy. It straps all of the way around me providing support for my back. It has two little bumps in the front to help support my hand under her head. And it is much firmer than a boppy, which I'd like to think Miss L enjoys. Lastly, it has an attached pocket for keeping small items in - say an extra pacifier, lanolin, or nursing pads. Basically, had I known about this...I wouldn't have registered for a boppy.

Second item: The exercise ball. We use it to bounce on while holding a crying baby and "usually" it will instantly calm her. We put her on it for "tummy time." And lastly, it makes a great ottoman in our living room.

In all honesty, these items are great...but what I really wanted to share but didn't want to sound showy...was that my new cell phone - HTC EVO 4G - is the best new mommy tool. I got this when Miss L was 9 days old...since my crackberry was on its last leg and my husband wanted to make me happy with a new little tech gadget. (Truth be told: He HAS to maintain a crackberry for work and wants a smart phone to call his own - this allows him to live vicariously through me!)

My phone
  • allows me to set multiple alarm clocks for waking up little one to eat in the middle of the night
  • provides hours of entertainment while nursing her at 4am...enabling me to read my library on my nook, enjoy facebook, read trashy E! news online or watch a youtube video on how to use one of the handy "wrap" carriers...moby, k'tan...etc.
  • has endless "baby" oriented apps - such as "What to expect baby," "Baby week," "Baby care," "Baby Monitor (haven't figured it out yet!)," and the all-mighty "White Noise" app...need I say more!
Point is...all new moms should get a smart phone and learn how to use it for a great start to feeling refreshed, organized and in tune with a modern society that is moving faster than they are getting off the couch these days.

To Blog or Not To Blog...

I've never thought of myself as a writer...in fact, I loathe writing anything except a "to-do" list, which I write daily. I do enjoy writing a lengthy letter to drop in the annual Christmas cards, and this past year my aunt told me how much she enjoys reading the letter and that I'm "such a good writer." This was news to my ears...and that of my English teachers. With the geographic distance growing between us and our family and many friends, I decided to blog to keep everyone informed...but also to share a slice of our life with the rest of the world. We enjoy the quality of our life...maybe others can read on for the betterment of theirs. Enjoy...
